A REVOLVING FUND
Our experience in Ethiopia has shown that our efforts are multiplied and are long lasting if we help others develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to reproduce the projects we help them start. It is more sustainable to teach, encourage, and train people to do things for themselves. If a community invests in a project physically, emotionally, and economically, they are more likely to appreciate and value it. Having a local perspective and knowledge of the project means that it is more likely to be culturally appropriate. Engage Now helps local communities identify their needs and then work with them to see what resources are available locally. Engage Now wants every woman to have a sense of hope for their children and their future.
To be eligible, each recipient must complete our business training program and join a self-help group to act as each others guarantors. If one member does not pay, the others are responsible for repayment. This structure has been shown to limit the number of default loans and presents a highly successful repayment rate. Once all of the women in a village have paid back their loans, a portion of their increase will go towards a project selected by the village. Through our micro credit revolving fund program these women will have a way to provide an income source to their families. Our program creates the means for a woman to own a successful small business, have economic stability, better health care, housing, the opportunity for education and ultimately self-sufficiency.
